The first Leaders and Entrepreneurs in Agriculture Forum (LEAF) 2018, presented by AGREA and GoNegosyo, covered the theme “Redefining + Revitalizing Agriculture” and featured some of the most innovative personalities in agriculture today.
In her message, Agrea president and CEO Cherrie Atilano said that as world population continues “to grow, much more effort and innovation will be urgently needed in order to sustainably increase agricultural production, improve the global supply chain, decrease food losses and waste, and ensure that all who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition have access to nutritious food.”

Lectures and panel discussions tackled subjects such as agripreneurship; growing inclusively by involving minority groups in agri endeavors; the role of education in encouraging the youth to go into agriculture.
Tech played an important role in the forum. There were talks on what defines the 21st century farmer, what the food of the future will look like, and how tech fits into agriculture’s marketing and commerce systems, especially in the context of a developing country.
Agritourism was likewise discussed as a yet untapped potential in a country that takes pride in its tourism industry.
LEAF hopes to drive home the message that, as Atilano says agriculture is “a field with abundant possibilities on and off the farm.”
