Farmer Resolutions for a New Year

By Patricia Bianca S. Taculao

A common tradition during the new year is making resolutions to follow. It usually involves meeting a personal goal like losing weight or saving a certain amount of money, depending on the nature of the person.

Farmer resolutions could include items spanning the farm, family, and even personal growth. Here’s a list of some that could work for them no matter what the year:

  1. Meet Your Consumers and Learn Their Choices
Since consumers are at the receiving line of produce, they’re not fully aware about the growing conditions of their food. Take some time to talk with a customer about their food choices to know what type of crops they want on their table.
  2. Keep Yourself Healthy
While it’s the farmer’s job to keep the community well-fed, it is also important that they shouldn’t neglect their health. Managing a farm can be a lot of work and it can sometimes be stressful. Learn to take things slow every once in a while because productive crops can’t grow without an effective farmer.
  3. Learn From Other Farmers
Each farmer specializes in a certain crop or practice on their farm. Even if it’s a common thing to stick to what we know is good and constructive, it also helps if the experiences of others when it comes to growing crops or taking care of livestock is taken into account. It helps give new perspectives to situations or problems that may arise.

Resolutions shouldn’t be limited only during the start of a new year. New ideas and changes might come in the middle, and one way to use it as an advantage is by starting as soon as possible.
