For its first session for the year, AgriTalk kicked off at SM City Puerto Princesa, Palawan last April 5.
More than 200 farmers and agri-preneurs were present at the venue to grab the opportunity to learn about three specific topics, namely mushroom production, snap hydroponics, and beekeeping from experienced lecturers.
First on stage was Maria Dulce Mostoles of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture. She discussed the different types of native stingless bees to work with as well as the different products that can be derived from honey and pollen.
Next was Jesse Descalsota, a university researcher from the University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Agriculture. He gave a detailed lecture on how to do snap hydroponics or container gardening for beginners.
Lastly, Jennifer Reyes of DA Palawan Research Experiment Station explained the proper way to produce mushrooms in a step-by-step manner.
AgriTalk, presented by Manila Bulletin’s magazine Agriculture Online, Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute, and the Bureau of Agricultural Research, is an event that offers free seminars on different fields of agriculture in the country.
Two more AgriTalk sessions will be held in other parts of the country within the year.
