Rice and seeds to be distributed to COVID-19 affected communities in Ilocos Norte

By Patricia Bianca S. Taculao

From April 20 to June 19, a total of 1,000 families in Ilocos Norte will receive a total of 3,000 kilograms of milled rice and assorted vegetable seeds as part of the effort of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and the Mariano Marcos State University (PCAARRD-MMSU).

The assorted vegetable seeds are to encourage the locals of the region to start their own vegetable gardens and become food secure during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

In the meantime, MMSU, funded by PCAARRD, will purchase milled rice from farmer cooperators to provide them with a source of income while providing food for the indigent families affected by COVID-19 in Ilocos Norte.

The municipalities of Paoay, Sarrat, Marcos, Piddig, Burgos, Pasuquin, Vintar, Banna, Solsona, and the City of Batac will benefit from this initiative.

This initiative is only one of the many efforts that have been carried out to help ease the situation in the province due to the current health crisis.
