Frontliners from two rural health units and six community police assistance centers in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat received 10 trays of boiled duck eggs and five trays of balut as part of a project from the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU).
This special package came from a project of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) known as “Itik for Life” and was implemented by the SKSU.
In the meantime, a similar initiative was carried out in Davao.
The Department of Agriculture-Regional Office XI (DA-RO XI) reached out to the frontliners in the region to deliver the duck eggs.
Residents of barangay Manambulan, Tugbok District in Davao City also received eggs since the project also aims to share its produce to frontliners as well as priority needy families.
The DA-RO XI also donated fresh duck eggs to Task Force-Davao in coordination with the Davao City-City Social Services Development Office.
Aside from providing for frontliners and affected families, the Itik for Life project also evaluates the production performance and egg quality of the “Itik Pinas-Kayumanggi,” a strain of layer type duck, in Region 12.
In the coming weeks, the project hopes to distribute more balut and fresh eggs to frontliners in other areas such as Surallah, South Cotabato since farmer cooperators in the area expressed their willingness to set aside their produce for the frontliners.
